Study: Lack of Communication Between IT Security Teams and Executives Leaves Room For Attacks

A report released by the Ponemon Institute indicates a lack of communication between IT security teams and company executives could increase antext here organization’s risk of attack.

The report, sponsored by Websense, indicates 23 percent of IT security team members speak with executives about cyber security just one time each year.

According to Websense Director of Security Research, Jeff Debrosse, that just isn’t enough.

In an interview with SC Magazine, Debrosse said that gap in communication leaves room for security compromises, as a lack of reported information is often misunderstood by executive teams as an indication that everything is running smoothly. That lack of understanding could also indicate that IT security teams require no additional support, despite the increase in cyber security-related attacks.

According to the 2014 Verizon Data Breach Investigations Report, more than 63,000 security incidents and more than 1,300 data breaches were reported in 2013.
